Lay Ministry is involved in many different areas of the church. We decorate the dining room for each season plus for the Community Easter Breakfast, Thanksgiving pie fest, and Community Christmas Dinner. The dining room is kept cleaned up and decorated at all times according to the season, so that it is ready for any event such as a funeral luncheon, bridal shower, baby shower, or indoor church picnic, etc.
Potlucks are held every 13th Sunday starting with the 4th Sunday in January. This is a time for everyone in the church to have fellowship and form a close church family.
We also have held soup, sandwich and dessert benefits for people in need, or for causes such as Malaria in Africa, our Seminary student, and our Missionary family we sponsor. We welcome free will monetary and food donations for these meals.
5 Lenten meals are held starting the Wednesday after Ash Wednesday and ending the Wednesday before Holy week.
Lay Ministry uses the free-will offerings from the Lenten meals for a variety of ministries during the year. During the last 6 ½ years Lay Ministry has purchased the following items: Christmas tree, Evergreen wreath for over the front door of the church, bench for a Prayer garden, Linen tablecloths with clear protective coverings, 2 Electric hand mixers, Good kitchen knife set, Bowls, ladles, etc., 3 Warming trays for hot dishes when items come out of the oven, Decorations for tables in the dining room for all seasons plus Easter & Christmas, Nativity scene, Paper supplies for table service.
The nativity scene with 6 bales of straw or hay and a spot light is put out the weekend after Thanksgiving and taken down the first weekend after the New Year.
The prayer garden is taken care of during the summer months. Weeding, spraying rose bushes, mulching if needed and making sure the solar lights are working.
Lay Ministry works with several other women of the church making crocheted Prayer Shawls.
